Many American’s blame their income for their inability to save. If you have already tried to save money by spending less and budgeting, try these easy ways to make a little extra income.
- Work Part-Time. Sign up for one of over 100 different gig economy apps and work part-time, on your own time. Drive people around with Uber. Drive food around with DoorDash. Shop for and delivery groceries with InstaCart. Write papers on Fiver.
- Rent out a bedroom and get a roommate, earning you anywhere from $6,000 to $12,000 per year.
- Rent out your car on Turo. If you are working from home or can use your spouse’s car for a few days, consider renting out your car for an extra $20-100 per day.
- Rent out your garage or shed as a storage unit. People are always looking for a place to store things. I rented out my garage for a while.
- Rent out your parking spot. My sister-in-law lives in Washington D.C. where parking is a premium. She had a parking spot with her apartment, but no car, so she decided to rent it out for $100 per month. When I lived near the river, I received multiple inquiries for people wanting to park their boats in my large driveway.
- Setup a free online store with Zazzle.com and start selling your Clothing Designs. In my freshman year of college, I spent 5 hours designing shirts on Zazzle. I never touched Zazzle again. Ten years later and I am still making $100 in sales each year. Imagine if I stuck with it and made more designs.
- Make stuff and sell it on Etsy.com. My friend made a good amount of money selling hand-made masks and baked goods in 2020. Some people use Etsy to sell their paintings or hand-made jewelry.
- Baby-sit or Pet-sit to make extra cash. Both of these pay surprisingly well. You can get as high as $40 per hour.
- Walk dogs. If you already have a dog, this becomes much easier. My neighborhood has 36 dogs as of my last count. If I just walk 5 dogs for an hour in the morning and another 5 dogs for an hour in the afternoon @ $15 per dog, I could make $150 per day with only 2 hours of my time.
- Sell your stuff. Check your closets, attic, shed, and garage. I am sure you have over 500 things you don’t need anymore. Instead of throwing them away or leaving them in your home to collect dust, try to sell them online or through a garage sale. Plato’s Closet is a chain of stores that buys your used clothing.
- Give your feedback. There are plenty of services online that pay you to take surveys or give feedback on products. A few include Google Rewards, Surveys On The Go, and 1Q. I just made $4.50 filling out a survey on 1Q a few days ago. It only took 2 minutes of my time. They also have 1-2 question short surveys that give you $0.25 to $0.50.
- Upgrade your credit cards. You can maximize rewards and cash back with card like the Discover It and Chase Freedom Flex where you earn 5% on quarterly categories and 1% on everything else. The Chase Freedom Flex also offers 5% on travel, 3% cash back on dining and drug stores, and other perks that come with Master Card World Elite.
I have personally experimented with most of these and I could tell you that it is very easy to make additional income. The next time you are binge watching a new season of a show on Netflix, think about how much money you could be making if you spend your time wisely.
