Door Dash – Here Is How Much Can You Earn In A Week

Just last week, Door Dash sent out an email to all Dashers with the tagline: How much can you earn when dashing in your area? The email showed me how much the average dasher makes in Philadelphia, as shown below.

  • 5 hrs/week – Dasher’s earned an average of $114
  • 10 hrs/week – Dasher’s earned an average of $235
  • 20 hrs/week – Dasher’s earned an average of $479
  • 40 hrs/week – Dasher’s earned an average of $927

Data Analysis With The Dasher Tracker

Shortly after I read the email, I decided to examine my Dasher Tracker available through the Shop Page to compare my hours worked and earnings from 2020 and 2021. The Dasher Tracker is a spreadsheet that I made to track everything Door Dash related. It tracks the days, hours, fuel costs, tips, mileage, and average hourly pay. The Dasher Tracker was created to help Dashers, Uber Eats drivers, Post Mates drivers, and Grubhub drivers calculate their quarterly taxes.

I looked through my personal Dasher Tracker and filtered all of my dashes that totaled 4.5 and 5.5 hours per week. Then I did the same for the 10 hrs/week and 20 hrs/week scenarios. I have never driven more than 30 hours per week for Door Dash so I ignored the 40 hrs/week metric from the Door Dash email. Here is how my earnings compare in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

  • 5/hrs/week – I earned an average of $110, or $22.00 per hour
  • 10/hrs/week – I earned an average of $203, or $20.30 per hour
  • 20/hrs/week – I earned an average of $468, or $23.60 per hour

Examining the Results

I was surprised to see that my earnings were very close to the average earnings communicated by Door Dash. I was within 4% of the 5 hours per week average, 15% within the 10 hours per week average, and 3% within the 20 hours per week average. The data provided by Door Dash was for Philadelphia where there are millions of people and restaurants in the area. I live an hour away from center city Philadelphia where the drives are longer and the orders rates are slower. I think I earned similar numbers to the busy Philadelphia area because I focus on peak times and weekends where I earn the most money. Overall I am happy with my earnings and I think I’m doing very well for my area. Like Door Dash content or anything money? Subscribe here for a monthly newsletter.
